Our Christmas Tree

We Love Our Tree

Here is a picture of our Christmas Tree. We love Christmas and we love our tree. We have so many special ornaments that bring back such wonderful moments with our family and friends. This is such a fun time of year.

Truck With Deer Antlers

You know you are in hunting country when you see this truck driving down the highway. Not sure if it is a Christmas decoration or just “the decorator’s touch”. We all decided the deer antlers were a nice addition! On the part of the deer… what a way to be immortalized. On my part… does this mean I live in a “Bubba” state?

Reindeer A Huge Hit!

This morning I took all my “Grands” to have Breakfast with Santa. What a wonderful morning with all the kiddos and it was for a great cause…raising money for the local Children’s Hospital. Although all the kids wanted to have their pictures taken with Santa, the REAL hit of the morning was the live reindeer. He was the big show stopper and all the kiddos loved touching him. What a fun way to kick off the “Santa” season!

These Are So Cute

Who knew that something I wanted very badly at age 10 would suddenly become the lastest “fad”? When I attended summer camp as a kid everyone was wearing these and I wanted a pair more than anything. Every year I wanted a pair more than the previous year, but I never did get that pair of moccasins! Minnetonkas have been around since the 1940’s and now I am the proud owner of two pair! Yee-Haw! Just the memories of wanting a pair of these for camp and finally having them has made me one happy camper! And the fact that my daughter in law and two grandkids are wearing them also is very funny. These moccasins are great for all cowgirls out there. In the 40s Minnetonkas were marketed for the camper and resort crowds and were sold in resorts and souvenir shops around the U.S. Now everyone wants a pair or two! Can you believe you can find them at Nordstroms (or online)?

Dale Evans Was the Best!

Lots of you may have never even seen an old Dale Evans/Roy Rogers movie! I grew up in a very small town where finding things to do were limited. The one thing we could always count on is going to the picture show or the drive in. Many times they showed old westerns and my favorites were Dale Evans/Roy Rogers movies. I loved Trigger, Butter Cup, Nelli Belle. I wanted to grow up and be Dale Evans!! Spending your time at the Saturday morning matinee watching the latest western was a great way to grow up… If you have never seen an old Dale Evans  western you ought to rent one for fun and enjoy a laugh or two. Happy Trails to You…

Deck The Halls

Santa

Decking the Halls and the excitement is building at our house. This Santa was a freebie the first year my husband were married. He has been a favorite of our family for many years. I love him not only because he has been around forever, but because he is ”weathered” up enough to look vintage!

Hope

I collect Hope Ornaments and our tree is filled with many!

Way To Go TCU!

TCU to Fiesta Bowl

How exciting that TCU is going to a BCS Bowl Game! We are so proud of our team. We have followed Frog Football for many years and this is about as good as it gets! Woo Hoo!!

We had snow flurries today and we will have our first big freeze tonight where it will drop to around 23 degrees. We wrapped all pipes last week, but still have one last pipe to do tonight. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. I knew we needed to go ahead and take care of that last pipe, but came up with 52 reasons why we should wait. Now, we will go out after dinner and wrap it in really COLD weather. It never pays to procrastinate!
We have nice soft fresh hay for all the new lambs and their moms so hopefully they will stay toasty tonight in this cold blast. I think we have winterized everything else. We may have a stray hose or two still out, but will gather them up tomorrow. We still have lots of grass in fields for animals so they have plenty to eat. Sheep and babies all in barn. Donkey’s and goats in pole barn. Cows under trees. Everyone should be happy tonight. We will heat the house until it is really warm then turn everything to low and warm up in bed with heating blanket turned up high. This old farm house can get really cold in the winter!

Last weekend we had the warmest & most beautiful weather. We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends and had way too much good food. After Thanksgiving we had friends come visit us at the farm. My good friend disappeared into the hills to paint all day as she is an artist. Her husband set out helping us with a long list of chores. Panels went up in sheep barn, a new freeze proof water cut-off was installed, sheet metal repaired & limbs trimmed off of barn. We all worked hard to complete these projects before the cold front moved in and on a farm that is enough to qualify as exciting!!! We also had some surprises over the weekend. Our sheep started lambing. On Saturday we had three of the sweetest little lambs to help celebrate our holiday weekend (one set of twins). The cold rainy weather blew in on Sunday so it was nice to have finished some of items on our list of “things to do”. More pictures of new lambs will be coming soon.

Newborn Lamb

One Hour Old...

Emy- November 22, 2009

This has been a long time coming, but today we had to say goodbye to our beloved donkey, Emy. You only have to have farm animals to understand the debth of love one can have for any barnyard animal. We purchased Emy at an auction knowing she was in her senior years, but we could tell she would enjoy living with us for her final years. She is the most loving and gentle animal I have ever known and our love for her is amazingly deep. We have loved her and she loved us. Goodbye to our sweet Emy. She will be missed by us and her donkey friends and by the goats who have stayed by her side the last few years. Our hearts are truly broken today…
